Menendez Hits Back

by: Juan Melli

Wed Sep 13, 2006 at 02:05:06 PM EDT

Lots of video today. This latest ad from Senator Menendez will serve to remind voters that the Rove/Bush/Kean Jr smear machine lacks credibility.

"You put your hand on the bible and swear to tell the truth."

Announcer: "Bob Menendez helped send corrupt politicians and organized crime figures to jail. Prosecutors call Menendez courageous, gutsy. He even wore a bullet proof vest. Bob Menendez was called a hero who stood up to a corrupt political machine."

Menendez: "I was threatened for taking on corrupt politicians, but you have to stand up for what is right no matter what. I'm Senator Bob Menendez and I approve this message"

Wrong, wrong, wrong. (4.00 / 2)
Playing defense on phony corruption charges is just what the Reps want Menendez to do.  It's been noted elsewhere (e.g., TPM and MyDD) that the GOP will rely on personal attacks and local issues to keep Dems from focusing on their best issue: Iraq.  Menendez needs to pull this ad ASAP and spend the last 6 weeks or so of the campaign running ads with variations of this message:

"I voted against the war in Iraq, and events have proved me right.  Vote for me and I'll do everything in my power to bring the troops home safely and hold Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld responsible for their lies and blunders.  My opponent, on the other hand, supports the war and will allow Bush to do whatever he wants.  On election day, you have one, and only one, opportunity to hold Bush accountable.  Vote Democratic."

Any time someone swiftboats you with phony charges about your character, you should ignore it, because that's what John Kerry did, and it worked.

menendez has enough money (4.00 / 1)
to run more than one ad.  I think it's important to respond to the endless corruption charges -- and this is a powerful story that most people probably don't know.  There will be lots of anti-Bush ads.

I have to think of a witty signature about Frank LoBiondo

Important Point (0.00 / 0)
This is one of many ads.  The first was about Senator Menendez's opposition to the Bush administration, especially on Iraq.  The second was about the way he's stood up to Bush for real homeland security.  And this is the third.

Trust me, folks -- we're not stopping at three.

Junior's Record (4.00 / 1)
is a target-rich environment.  His pronouncements on Social Security, stem cell research, Iraq, all fair game, and all out of step with the voters of this state.

Fire away.

Yes, Defend Against The Lies...But Speak The Truth Without Mercy... (0.00 / 0)
The FACT is that the greatest threat to the national security of our whole nation is the utterly incompetent and utterly corrupt policies of the Bush administration which Tom Keane Jr has NOT condemned in any credible way!!!

Bush and Bin Laden are political "strange bedfellows" in that BOTH feed off of fear and terror and hate and ignorance to achieve their ends and maintain a perverse grip on power.

Menendez has to go way beyond the kinds of cautious criticism we have seen to date.

If the Republicans manage to keep control of the House and the Senate; our democracy itself is in peril!

I would love to see Menendez take a super tough position with no fear and to be willing to spend 50 hours in real rough and tumble detailed debates with Junior.

Whatever garbage accusations the Republicans have thrown
against Bob Menendez; they are less than nothing compared to the treasonous impeachable un-American way Bush has sold out democracy and the American people to grab and to hold on to power and to make his contributors filthy rich.

The Republicans are wrong on virtually every issue from national security to EPA to OSHA to Medicare to HUD to you name it.  Even on their old "strongpoint" of fiscal restraint...they have mortgaged America's future in (debt) service to foreign bondholders and to the profits of currupt economic sectors which avoid taxation due to legalized loopholes passed by Republican majorities.

Kean is fronting for an administration that is little more than an organized crime network.

I realize that "mainstream" pols aren't supposed to talk this way; but I bet being totally honest would work in NJ.

I remember the time when John Kerry actually spoke his mind when he thought he was off mic and told a citizen that the Bush Republicans were a bunch of "crooks and liars"...if Kerry had held to that line in public/on the record and had used all his intellectual skills and moral capital to stand on those words; he would be President today

Menendez has it in him to be a lot tougher than he's been.

Go for it Bob!
