Emergency at Occupy Trenton

by: Rosi Efthim

Fri Oct 14, 2011 at 12:31:02 PM EDT

UPDATE: "Cameras, computers, keyboards, network equipment ... " I'm quoting one of the Trenton occupiers, reciting what he was watching either police officers or persons directed by police officers cart away. The equipment that the Occupy Trenton folks have used to communicate what they're doing to the rest of us. Moments later, the live feed went offline.
UPDATE: They're back on line, broadcasting from a car, charging batteries for the live video feed. They're asking for people to get down there: 125 West State Street, across from the State House.

Occupy Trenton's live video feed just went dead, then came back, after some chaos. From an #Occupy participant:

caolcaoimhe: BlueJersey occupiers were notified that at 12PM any personal property not on their immediate person will be confiscated and discarded

The generator is gone, via a truck whose license plate they hastily wrote down. Signs have been removed. Their live video feed is now battery-only, and that may mean their ability to communicate the way they have 24 hours/day will in minutes be at least temporarily halted.

Bill Orr is down there now, and whatever is going on, I think he's witnessed it, and will have better detail up for you as soon as he can. At least one occupier - Alexander Higgins - is describing this as a confiscation of their belongings, and reports that the people removing the stuff are all in plain clothes, not in uniform.

Phone numbers (0.00 / 0)
(from the livestream chat)
NJ State Police-609-882-6000 / Trenton Mayor 609-989-3030

TRENTON POLICE DIRECTOR'S OFFICE: 609-989-4055

Attorney General 609-292-4925

I'd skip calling Mayor Mack (4.00 / 1)
and there's probably no one at the PD answering phones, either. (I'm guessing city sanitation workers were used to clean up the park).

I'm pretty sure (I'm guessing that) the ACLU-NJ is already in the loop.

Calling the AG is prob. the most useful thing you could do out of these four telnos.

Here's hoping the organizers can get in front of a Superior Court judge today.

Yes, they're in the loop.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

AP (0.00 / 0)
Bill Orr was there, I expect he will post when he's able to. There was an AP reporter present, and at least also a reporter from one of the major networks' O&O outlets, which may mean video coverage in NY or Philadelphia later.

There is support coming in via chat from supporters and #Occupy colleagues from around the country right now.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

walk away from the state house keeping the SH on your right and the turn right at the second light - Cafe Ole is about two blocks down on the left.

Please go to Trenton...they need your help. Call Office of The Attorney General

Equipment was taken "loaded it into an unmarked truck with licence plate WNB-68E"

I'm not sure what's the point of contacting the AG (0.00 / 0)
I'm sure she's in on it. Dow probably told the thugs it was legal to steal people's stuff.

Contacting the FBI or Federal Marshals makes more sense to me, since the state police committed a crime.

I'm not so sure calling any of them (0.00 / 0)
would make any difference; I just think that, of the four offered, only the AG would likely even listen.

That might be funny if the Occupy folks had allied themselves to Barack Obama. But they have not.

You're apparently not paying attention. So, your attempt to make fun of both the president and the protesters at the same time falls flat.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.
