Proof of A Really Pathetic GOP Presidential Field

by: huntsu

Sun May 08, 2011 at 09:50:32 AM EDT

If you needed further evidence after the GOP Presidential Primary debate the other day, here is another straw dropping on the camel's back:

Some of Iowa's top Republican campaign contributors, unhappy with their choices in the developing presidential field, are venturing to New Jersey in hopes they can persuade first-term Gov. Chris Christie to run.

Do they want Christie because he has good policies?  Good ideas?  Would be a good President?  Nope.  They just think he'd be a good campaigner.  Welcome to the modern GOP, where winning the office trumps performing in office.

"Our problem is we have a number of candidates who would make great presidents, but very few that make great candidates."

And where are they meeting?  At Christie's private home?  A Republican party office?  Nope, in the publicly owned and managed Governor's mansion.

Bruce Rastetter, an Iowa energy company executive, and a half-dozen other prominent Iowa GOP donors sought the meeting with Christie, the governor's chief political adviser, Mike DuHaime, told The Associated Press. The get-together is set for the governor's mansion in Princeton, N.J., on May 31.

It'd be hilarious to have a crowd of people outside Drumthwacket with "Run Christie Run" signs to convince these Iowans to continue their courting.
