Kutcher asked viewers to go onto www.serve.gov, a site sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, and find a venue in which to provide community service. Options offered for Newark residents include teaching kids to cook, helping with homework or donating clothes to youth homeless shelters.
To make the pledge personal, Kutcher asked the online community to videotape themselves and post the video to Kutcher's Twitter page.
And they have a little wager riding on the outcome of the contest:
Once 300 people have made video pledges, Booker said the two of them will play a one-on-one, "no blood, no foul" basketball game. If Kutcher loses, the lifelong Chicago Bears fan agreed to accompany the mayor to a Giants game wearing a Giants hat and jersey. If Booker loses, the mayor will have to wear a Bears jersey to a Chicago game.
Here's video from the announcement of the contest:I'll put the four part web video exchange between Booker and Kutcher below the fold where they discuss how the idea came about and the need for people to get involved in service. You can follow Ashton Kutcher, Cory Booker and the service challenge on their twitter accounts.
